Faruq Ibnul Haqi, currently a lecturer in the Department of Architecture at The State Islamic University of Sunan Ampel (UINSA), Surabaya, is an expert in architectural design, urban and regional planning, and sustainable urban design. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) in 2009 and later attained a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of South Australia, School of Natural Built and Environment in 2015. This advanced degree was fully funded by the Australia Awards Scholarship from the Australian Government, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. During his master studies, he received an international grant for conducting studies and projects in Hue City and Da Nang City, Vietnam. Before joining UINSA, Faruq was an assistant lecturer at the Laboratory of Building and Technology at the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII), focusing on building construction, materials, and architectural design studio. He was also served as the Vice President of the Association of Construction Service Nusantara (APJAKON) in Central Java Province. Faruq has research interests which primarily in urban architecture, urban design with a policy focus, and the development of healthy cities, particularly in the context of developing countries like Indonesia, with a special interest in the intersection of political leadership and urban health.
